Navigating the NDIS can feel overwhelming, especially with ongoing changes to plans, reports and assessments. To make things clearer, the NDIS has updated several key terms and processes. Here’s what families need to know to stay informed and confidently advocate for their child’s support.

Key NDIS Updates You Should Know

1. Plan Variations vs. Plan Reassessments

2. Participant Check-Ins
The NDIS now conducts regular check-ins—a quick, friendly call to see how your child’s plan is working. These calls can affect the plan, so if you’re not prepared or don’t have reports ready, you can ask to reschedule. This gives you time to gather documentation and input from your support team.

3. Early Childhood Provider Reports
For children under 7, allied health providers such as Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians and Psychologists now play a more central role in submitting reports. These help ensure that your child’s NDIS plan stays aligned with their developmental goals and changing needs.

4. Home and Living Supports
The process for applying for home modifications or supported accommodation is now simpler. This change helps families access the right supports for their living environments more efficiently.

5. Plan Reassessment Dates
Previously, plans had end dates. Now, most plans remain active until they’re reassessed. This helps prevent gaps in support while waiting for a new plan to be approved.
